Read Across Time Reading Challenge

posted Mar 1, 2017, 6:18 PM by Jason Brunken   [ updated Mar 1, 2017, 6:18 PM ]

March is here, and at Happy Kids, that means it's time for the Annual Reading Challenge. The time we all go a little crazy for reading. This year Happy Kids's staff has whipped together a fun new reading challenge theme for the kids: Race Across Time. We will put the spotlight on history as our Reading Challenge teams zip across time in their custom-built time machines. At the end of the month we have a hilarious and original dramatic performance for the kids, tons of prizes, and pizza! We look forward to all of our Happy Kids parents' help in reminding students of healthy reading habits and encourage reading time at home. None of this would be possible without your awesome contributions and support. Be sure to follow all of the Race Across Time Reading Challenge action on this special webpage.

Students in all programs at Happy Kids will be given a Reading Log to record what they read this month. For Day Program students, they should be keeping track of how many books they read. Parents should help with this. ASLA students should be monitoring how long they read by counting the number of reading minutes they get each day. They have a Reading Passport to record all of their reading time that parents should review and sign each day. Can't wait to see who our top readers are this year.

1st Annual Happy Kids Book Drive

posted Nov 11, 2016, 12:49 AM by Jason Brunken   [ updated Nov 11, 2016, 12:49 AM ]

This year, Happy Kids is doing something a little different. We are holding a book drive. A book drive is a call for donations of books to go to families, schools, and communities in need of them. Our intention is to make this an annual event where each fall we collect books prior to Christmas Break and then donate them for the Chinese New Year holidays to schools and communities around the island in need of the resources.

Starting in November, we are asking parents and students to bring in English-language books that are in good condition and appropriate for students (ages 2-16) to Happy Kids. You can bring books any time through January 2. These books will then be given to the Taipei City Government which runs a book collection service. They will ensure the books go to schools and municipal libraries around Taiwan that need them most.

Just give any books you would like to donate to a Happy Kids teacher or administrative staff member, and we will make sure the books get where they need to go. Thank you for your support. If you have any questions please contact Mr. Yen or Mr. Brunken.

Happy Moon Festival! No School, Sept. 15-16

posted Sep 13, 2016, 7:51 PM by Jason Brunken   [ updated Sep 13, 2016, 7:52 PM ]

Moon Festival is here! Moon cakes and BBQ under the moon  await us all this weekend (as long as the rain passes). Happy Kids wishes all of our families a fun ad safe holiday weekend. Whether you are traveling or enjoying a relaxing time at home, enjoy the time together. If the rain keeps you inside, remember, a book is an excellent leisure activity. Encourage your kids to do some reading this weekend as well.

Due to the holiday, there will be no classes Thursday and Friday this week. However, Mr. Brunken's Middle School Program will meet as scheduled on Saturday.

See you all back on Monday!

Welcome back to all of our students. After a month off for cleaning, repairs, and preparation for this school year, the Red Doors are open and ready for the return of our Happy Kids. We hope everyone had a fun-filled and relaxing summer break, I know we did, but we are even more excited now as our favorite time of the year is here: A new school year is starting!

Our amazing team of teachers have been working hard the past two weeks to get their classrooms and plans ready for this week. I know you all won't be disappointed with the high quality instruction and friendly, welcoming environment Happy Kids has in store for your children this year.

We're ready to get started. Are you?

Summer Break, See you in a few weeks

Thank you to all of our Happy Kids parents and students for a wonderful year and Summer Camp. It was wonderful seeing the students have such a wonderful time and learn so much. However, it is time to close up the school for awhile while we get ready for the new school year. Happy Kids will be closed from August 1 until the first day of Day Program classes on August 23rd. ASLA classes will begin a week later on August 29th.

Have a fun and safe summer. We can't wait to hear all your summer stories and welcome all of our Happy Kids back in a few weeks.  Don't forget that summer reading.
